This event brings together young people to share experiences and insights to the role and experiences young people have in matters of peace and security, especially in the field of preventing violent extremism. There are many ongoing efforts to address these issues and find practical solutions to them, that are emerging in both in Finnish and global context.

During discussion, we will have an opportunity to hear about the work and efforts that youth are leading in Finland, Nigeria and Northern Ireland. Furthermore, we will have a chance to hear insights and experiences from the policy-making perspective on how and why youth should be supported and included in this work. In 2015, United Nations (UN) Security Council passed a resolution 2250 that calls for UN Member States to ensure inclusion and recognition of young people in Peace and Security related matters. Finland is the first country to launch a National Action Plan that will define measures and actions to advance this.

This event takes place in the sidelines of the First International Symposium on Youth Participation in Peace Processes, and will allow young people in Finland to discuss with international participants that are arriving to this Symposium.

Tilaisuus on Helsingissä kokoontuvan Nuoret, rauha ja turvallisuus -symposiumin yhteydessä tapahtuva sivutapahtuma. Symposium tuo Suomeen nuoria, jotka ovat toimineet tai edistäneet rauhanprosesseja tai muulla merkittävällä tavalla vieneet rauhaa ja turvallisuutta koskevaa työtä eteenpäin. Mukana on myös nuoria, jotka tekevät väkivaltaisen ekstremismin ennalta ehkäisyä, jota myös nuoret Suomessa ovat edistäneet. Koska symposium on itsessään suljettu, ja suomalaisilla nuorilla ei ole mahdollisuutta tavata ja vaihtaa ajatuksia osallistujien kanssa, järjestämme tilaisuuden nuorille.
